SUPPORT> Endangered Species Fund of Canada: Programs to save endangered species needs your support!

The Endangered Species Fund of Canada (ESFC) is a registered charity (#89032 5640 RR0001) which gives financial assistance to Jungle Cat World Wildlife Park to support their public education and conservation initiates for endangered species.

Zoological Parks are an important tool in protecting species at risk through conservation efforts, research and education. As showcases for species on the verge of extinction, they are an influential means to generate public awareness and concern, encouraging environmentally conscientious and responsible behaviour.

CONSERVATION

Only through the protection of wild spaces, not species alone, will we be able to successfully preserve the Earth's biodiversity. Unfortunately, the majority of the land, water and atmosphere have already been significantly and negatively altered by human influence. Some ecosystems have sustained such damage that they are beyond repair and we struggle to salvage what we can.

Zoological institutions, Aquariums and Botanical Gardens have become genetic refuges for vanishing species. The ultimate goal is to preserve plants and animals, in the safety of captivity; so that once key habitats are protected and restored we will be able to re-establish self-sustaining populations. Many species found today in captivity contribute to the overall survival of their race, whether through the preservation and distribution of its genes, public education with hopes of encouraging responsible environmental behaviour and/or research. Intimate knowledge of the biology and ecology of a species is crucial for future reintroduction programs to succeed.

The ESFC has supported in-situ and ex-situ conservation efforts for such endangered animals as Amur leopards (Panthera pardus orientalis), Snow leopards (Uncia uncia) and Cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus).

EDUCATION

Studies indicate that frequent contact with nature, starting in childhood, is an important part of personal growth and balanced development. Through environmental socialization come the formative experiences and achievements that compel people to become conscientious citizens and responsible leaders. The ESFC sponsors many of Jungle Cat World's education programs, including Safari Zoo Camp and Wildlife Adventure (outreach).
